FFA233 ( Digital Ink & Painting ) : Tracing the Monkey (Adobe Illustrator)

Subject     : FFA233 W2 (Digital Ink & Painting)
Semester   : FF115 III B
Exercise    :  Tracing The Monkey (Adobe Illustrator)

A vector image of a monkey.

- INPUT -

This assignment requires us to recreate a vector image of a monkey into our own, traced version of the monkey using the basic tools provided in Adobe Illustrator. While I myself had an experience on using a vector graphic editor software called CorelDRAW, this assignment gave myself an opportunity to try using other vector based software to see the difference between those two softwares.

While being guided by a friend that has the proficiency in using Adobe Illustrator, I was exposed to various shortcut keys and tips on how to easily using this very software.

And as the result, I finally (but not 100% accurately) traced the vector monkey.

- THE FINAL PRODUCT -

The traced version of the Vector Monkey.

The comparison between the original Monkey and the traced Monkey.

- STEP-BY-STEP -

- OUTPUT -

Vector graphics is the use of polygons to represent images in computer graphics. Vector graphics are based on vectors, which lead through locations called control points or nodes.

Unlike raster graphics (bitmaps or pixel arrays), vector images could maintain the quality of the graphics. The user can resize the image infinitely without losing any quality.

Creating vector images does not require the drawing skills, so everyone could do their own vector artworks. This assignment encourages us that vector graphics could also be used to produce some good artworks, even beating bitmap artworks when it comes to quality.
